 The Lone Alpha
« Thread Started on Jul 9, 2007, 10:48am »

The charcoal black alpha lay perched upon a ridge jutting out over the mouth of the den. He had not seen anyone for days and had been wondering to himself where the others had gone. His black bushy tail flicked this way and that in anticipation of seeing a new or old face. His bright yellow eyes scanned the vast cold tundra. He waited for any signs he was not alone.

Fay was ambling through the melting snow, the little puddles washing along her pads, making her appear far more rugged than she actually was. there was a soft-spokenness about her mien that often had other underestimate her, but it was how she preferred it. naturally petite, it was easier to remain invisible while quiet. that the alpha of the pack had disappeared, leaving her to fend for herself was nothing new to her, for Fay was quite used to such sentiments from her earlier years. still, it had been a hard winter. all alone with no one to answer her calls, she had truly felt the spark of loneliness engulfing her.

it was while she had been meandering through the packlands that she had caught a stray scent of Corvin some earlier days. the scent had seemed old and she had reckoned that it was from before the winter's coming. but as she stumbled across a tuft of fur where the matting was undone, then she knew that he was still wandering around. why he hadn't called, she would never know, nor would she understand. but Fay had been alone for quite too long to care either way. how she'd be received she did not know, but she was inclined to shut down that particular thought in lieu of another insidious thought. the others, where were they?

they had dispersed almost as quickly as she had. that one fateful night, vivid in her memory. it was the first time she had met members of the pack that had not been among Corvin himself. it had been a rush. the blood lust had been sated for some time, leaving her quiet and docile, but Fay was a wolf and was prone toward such outbursts of wildness. that her nature was to be forever warped by instincts, she did not mind, nor did she think others did. were they not, too born of the same instincts that kept one alive? she snorted, and realized she was almost a year older. where the seasons had gone, she did not know, but she was glad she was still alive to treasure the life that flowed thickly in her veins. the sheer adrenaline that would rush through her every muscle and bring her closer to that shining pinnacle of life than at any other time.

she had lost herself, and the norther rocky Grey stumbled to a stop, her paws ceasing to move through the growing thickness of puddles, the melting snow thick, as the spring leaves tried to sprout out hard and stubborn from Terra. one sniff, and Corvin's scent reached her nose. a live scent. snorting in disbelief, Fay began to move at a quicker pace, her body easily carried by her swift paws. as she meandered with that quick lope of hers she followed the stray scent to the very breathing, very live beast that lay looking around his domain. licking her lips, her tongue lolled out before folding inside of her mouth, jaws closing with an audible snap. she did not move but stood there on the slightest of inclines, staring at Corvin. where had he been?

Fay couldn't believe it, after months of being alone, the alpha was right there, and she didn't particularly feel the urge to pad up to him and congradulate him on his return. things were not going well in her mind. she snorted softly, ears flicking down against her skull, the dark grey mask that covered her forehead eyes and the upper bridge of her nose was in bright contrast to the whiteness of her throat and lower maw. there was disbelief in her gaze, and under it, accusation. nothing.

with a flick of her tail, Fay turned around on the hill her fur bristling over her shoulders as she shrugged slightly. tongue flicking out to touch her furry lips the northern rocky grey, now a year older turned her body around in the opposite direction and disappeared into the forested area. the puddles soaked her legs, covering them in upturned earth that had muddled with the rains. the snow was going away, and she smiled softly, a flash of fangs and an impish glint in her eyes before her walk became some what faster. she immersed herself into the forest, shouldering the weight of being alone and feeling it unfurl and fly up into the sky with her spirit. the summer brought new things. she could always just travel to another land. find a new place, one less fraught with such dangers. the world would always be there, waiting for her to jump in.

but now it was different. it wasn't waiting, it was beckoning her, calling to her very soul. leave them, it whispered. and she followed the voice, curiousity and the feeling of freedom becoming the thing that carried her far. she loved to run and she put all of her focus into it, feeling the world shuddering and shifting about her. the alpha was no more to her, for he'd just been a lone brute lying forlornly in the snowy embankement. this was real to her. the blood pulsing in her veins, the churning of mud beneath her paws as her claws dug deep into the terra and pushed off. she loved it, from the very taste in her mouth to the scent orgasm that rocked her senses, Fay cradled the emotion of adrenaline, cultivating it. yes, she thought. this is life.

who knew if they'd ever see her again.

Across from him, to far to see, a jet black pup lay in the snow wondering where he was, and when he would find another wolf, well one that wouldn't try to kill him. He let out a longly howl and waited for a reply...
